The #bitcoin Writing Contest by Rootstock & HackerNoon

The #bitcoin Writing Contest, presented by Rootstock and HackerNoon, is now live with a total prize pool of $17,500 up for grabs!

Whether you're a thought leader, a skilled writer, a talented developer, or simply passionate about blockchain technology, this contest invites you to showcase your expertise in various Bitcoin-related topics.

Throw your hat in the ring with the #bitcoin tag and stand a chance to win big!

The contest welcomes submissions under the following themes:

Explore various Bitcoin topics, both new and old, such as Runes, what Satoshi’s writings mean to you, ordinals, layer 2 solutions, sidechains, how Bitcoin changed finance forever, and/or quality analysis about its price prediction or impact on inflation.

 Dev Stack

 and Tooling

Delve into the development stack and tooling related to building on Bitcoin, including SDKs, APIs, smart contract development frameworks, etc. Developers and makers should showcase the technical capabilities for building with Bitcoin.

Provide step-by-step tutorials on how to build applications, smart contracts, or implement specific features. Bonus points for building with Rootstock. These tutorials will serve as practical guides for developers and enthusiasts looking to start building on Bitcoin.

Rootstock is the first and longest-lasting Bitcoin sidechain. It is the only Bitcoin layer 2 today that combines the security of Bitcoin's proof-of-work, with Ethereum's smart contract capabilities.

Rootstock is open-source, EVM-compatible, and secured by over 60% of Bitcoin’s hashing power, which makes it a gateway to a vibrant ecosystem of dApps that continues to evolve to become fully trustless.

Head to the developer portal if you’re ready to start building on Rootstock, and join the conversation on Discord today!

Who Can Enter the Contest?

Anyone over the age of 18. There are no location restrictions.

Can I Write Under a Pen Name?

Yes! You can use your real name on your HackerNoon profile, a fake name, or even create a persona to write under.

How Long Will the Contest Run?

The contest consists of 3 rounds and will run for six months.

Round 1: May 22 - July 21, 2024

Round 2: July 22 - September 21, 2024

Round 3: September 22 - November 22, 2024

Can I submit more than one entry to the contest?

Of course. Each story submission shall be considered a new entry into the writing contest.

How are the winners selected?

  • Each round, we’ll shortlist the top 10 story submissions that receive the most eyeballs (real humans, not bots!).

  • Next, the 10 shortlisted stories will be voted on by HackerNoon staff and the 3 stories with the most votes will be selected as winners.

  • Additionally, thought leadership articles will be reviewed separately and the top 2 for each round will receive $650 a piece.

Can I win more than one prize?

Absolutely! Each of your submitted stories has a chance to win. Nominees are selected based on total traffic in each round, and then our team votes on them. If two of your stories from that round are among the top performers, both are eligible to win prizes. This means you could potentially secure both first and second place in the contest if two of your stories make it to the top 10.

If I win a prize in round 1, can I still submit another entry into round 2?

Absolutely! Feel free to enter each round of the competition.

Is it okay to submit an AI-generated entry?

You can but your entry will NOT be considered for prize awards.
